Defender of Women and Children against Trafficking - standing up for human rights

Even amid repeated threats to her life, Lydia has brought a court case challenging government officials to the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice and will pursue this case in international courts in 2008. A recipient of the Francisco Ojeda Award for Journalistic Courage and named by the US State Department as a Hero Acting to End Modern Day Slavery, Lydia has been deeply involved with programs that help children deal with the impact of emotional and physical abuse, as well as those that address non-violent conflict resolution.
Standing up for the principles of the Universal Declaration
Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms the right not to be discriminated against based on one’s sex. These important tenets against gender-based discrimination were strengthened in 1979 through the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
