Mark the 60th Anniversary with your 'Stand Up'

Starting in just 4 short days, from October 17th through the 19th, people around the world will 'Stand Up and Take Action' against poverty and injustice. The Elders' chair, Archbishop Desmond Tutu has sent out this message of support for all you who are planning to participate.

Help mark the 60th Anniversary with your 'Stand Up' action this year.

"This is a historic year: 60 years ago, the world's leaders set out a vision of a world where all people have basic
rights. They enshrined those rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This is a historic generation:
by standing together, you could be the first generation to end one of the great injustices and human rights
violations in history - extreme poverty."

If you're not living near an already planned 'Stand Up' event, or if you want to participate in your own way, GCAP and the other Stand Up partners have made it easy to plan and add your own. Get together with fellow members of an organization you're a part of, with your friends, your family, your colleagues, or your neighbors: and ask everyone to 'Stand Up' together.

This December, members of The Elders will go farther in marking this historic year by joining campaign partners in a call to the world - citizens and politicians alike - that human rights DO matter. Make sure to include your group's 'Stand Up' event in the thousands of assenting voices that will join in bolstering this call; email the campaign team with a description of your event and the number of people involved.
